Patch 135 - UO Tutorial Server, Swing Advance/Movement, more
by Derrick (Posted Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:15 pm)Some of these changes have been live for a little while, but these are all the changes since Patch 134
Changes prior to this morning:
- Hue for stat loss message set to blue when not in stat, was previously grey when not eligible for stat loss.
- Lumberjacking trees will always yield ten logs if successful.
- Fixed typo in "Arr! Do that again and I'll throw ye overboard!" message: Thanks Atraxi
- You can no longer Recall from copies of boat keys. [Thanks Darkwing]
- Stat and Skill correction for Blade Spirts and Energy Vortexes [Thanks Generic Player and others]
- Some changes to overall monster loot, but especially a correction to elementals. [Thanks Faust and others]
- Added Test Center to server list
- Added UO Tutorial Shard to server list:
- This is the culmination of many many months of work, and hundreds of man-hours; primarily by Batlin who single handedly has unlocked many of OSI's darkest secrets.
The man wears a wizard hat in real life; and it's been my honor to have been able to work with him. - The tutorial may be up and down for a couple days while we work out some bugs.
- This OSI Demo based tutorial is a tribute the the original OSI T2A demo.
The quest itself is mechanically accurate to the Demo included on the T2A retail cd. - The shard that it runs on is separate from UOSA, yet the shard mechanics are the same as UOSA. As such, many of the actual shard mechanics do not reflect the original T2A Demo timeframe.
- With the exception of Ocllo bank, the decoration of Ocllo is identical to the UO Demo.
- The Tutorial Server launches each new player in his own world to explore.
There is not at this time any way to interact with other players. - This Tutorial server will not likely be staffed. If you need help with the quest, just say "help" to the wisp.
- If you wish to explore without completing the quest, you can say "dismiss"
- If you want to start over, you can just delete the "Avatar" from the character selection screen to reset the world.
- This is the culmination of many many months of work, and hundreds of man-hours; primarily by Batlin who single handedly has unlocked many of OSI's darkest secrets.
- You can remove the name on a runebook by setting it to "none" (like guild titles): Thanks Sandro
- Removed movement restriction on weapon swing advance.
- While we know that weapon swings did not advance on movement at some point during T2A or UO:R due to the explicit UO:R era patch note indicating the removal of this constraint, we do not know when this mechanic was introduced. We do know that it did not exist in Pre-T2A. We have therefore removed the mechanic from UOSA, pending any other information on the subject.
- Vendors now respond to "shopkeep", or "shopkeeper": Thanks "a wisp".
- Tracking now cancels when tracker dies.
- Fatigue on Movement now applies to all mobiles; Not just Players
- Cobblers no longer sell colored sandals: This was confirmed via OSI information. Thanks Mens Rea.
- Thieves will no longer reveal themselves as perma-grey if they attack themselves.
- Time between shard restart warnings increased to 4.9 mins from 4.0 mins.
- Font and text hue change for save message. [Thanks Sinatra]
- A problem with the core timer, introduced long ago was corrected. This was causing time to pass about 12% slower than it should have in game, and was effecting everything including but not limited to: spell cast times, weapon swings, bandaging, criminal timers, house decay, stamina loss, etc.
- Disguise kits will no longer wear off while the player is logged out, or when the shard restarts.
- Walruses can now swim.
- Any creatures which cannot move, including corpsers and reapers will show (frozen) in their name.
BUM Event This Sunday! Tamer Duels!
by Blackbeard (Posted Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:58 am)On Sunday, the 5th, at 5:00 PM server time, I will be hosting an event at BUM Headquarters east of the Skara Brea crossing. It will be a duel to the death or forfeiture between the pets of animal tamers. There is a 5K entry free and to the winner goes the entire pot! You have until Sunday to send me, fox phyre or chainsoar a PM registering for the event. Contact us on IRC (Deus_Ex_Machina, fox_phyre or chainsoar) or in the forums to register.
Here are the rules:
1. You are only allowed one pet for the contest.
2. You may only cast beneficial spells and healing spells once on your pet before any pet duel begins. In other words: Cast Strength, Blessing and/or Protection then throw a heal on him before the duel starts but if you do so during the fight, you will be disqualified.
3. You are not allowed to cast harmful spells on the opponent's pet. You may cast them on your own if you wish, however. Not that you would want to...
4. The duel is to the death between your tames or until somebody says "I forfeit!"
5. This is the most important rule so pay careful attention: You may only use non-hostile tames to fight. This means no lava lizards, dire wolves, dragons, etc. If you bring one of those, you are automatically disqualified.
We will be opening gates to Buc's Den and West Britain Bank roughly half an hour to fifteen minutes before the event starts to get everybody inside. Now go tame something and train him up! Good luck.

DOWNLOAD: UO Auto-Map 9.0 Beta - UOSA Exclusive Multi-Client
by Dagon (Posted Wed Aug 18, 2010 6:55 am)-= UO Auto-Map v9.0 Beta =-
Featuring UO Multi-Clienting Capability.
Read the following information for the known issues and limitations. UOAM is not 100% multi-client capable.
UOAM was never intended for multi-clienting (especially with the UOA enhanced features), and as such there are a number of issues with the methods I've implemented to enable multi-client support.
Read and understand the following information before registering any complaints and use the information provided to determine whether or not the limited multi-client support will be useful to you.
Not every function or situation has been tested, so if you find any issues that are not listed below please report them.
What's New
Two versions of the UOAM program file are provided, each with unique new functionality. One may suit your needs better than the other, however they are both similar when it comes to the limitations.
UOAM Locked (Single) Client
UOAM locked to a single client - - like default UOAM operation.
It will lock into the most recently opened client only and will not switch between clients. You can run 3 locked UOAM's for 3 clients and they will all operate individually (with UOA houses). (i.e. open uo client 1, open uoam 1, open uo client 2, open uoam 2, etc)
UOAM Auto Switch Client
UOAM will switch between the currently active UO clients.
At this time the 3 client limit is a static hard-coded number and it will not work for more than 3 clients.
The UOAM update procedure has been completely removed without the need for the Q command line switch.
Known Issues/Limitations for the Auto Switch Client
1) Houses will be displayed on UOAM for the first client, but are lost for other clients.
b) When switching back to the first client a house (or a few) may disappear but will reappear after you leave the area (about a screen) and return again.
2) UOAM Chat
a) Only the first client logged into a UOAM server will be able to send text, but all clients will receive text from connected players.
b) Tracking of a chat-enabled character will switch with the active UO client like the normal map tracking operation. This means that even though character X logged into chat when you switch to character Y's UO screen character Y will be tracked by the rest of the chat-linked players.
3) Markers
Markers between players are semi-shared, meaning if you dropped a marker on each map and switch between characters the current character will "pick up" the previous marker and the distance/direction will be shown for that marker.
You will not be able to drop a new (second/third) marker for each character as the first marker is still active.
Known Issues/Limitations for the Single Client
Same as above, items 2-3.
Even with one session of the locked UOAM client open, UOA features will be shared among all open clients, so for example typing -where into a non-Locked client will still give you the UOA response of your coordinates even though the map is not tracking that character.
It is unlikely that these issues will ever be resolved due to the way UOAM was made.
I've experimented with a number of methods to try and resolve these issues but none were successful. Without the actual UOAM source code to drastically change the way it handles the client and interfaces with UO Assist (Razor) there's nothing more that can be done (as far as I can see). Please keep this in mind before ranting about how useless or crappy or whatever these modifications have been.
These modified versions of UOAM can run side-by-side with the unmodified version of UOAM, provided that it is installed to a different directory since one newly modified file is not compatible with the unmodified UOAM. Installing over an existing installation of UOAM does not remove any of the existing map files, but asks you if you want to remove any existing UOAM files (if yes, deletes uoam.exe, register.exe, and updateace.dll before installing).
I don't think I'm forgetting anything else..... so, Enjoy.

IRC Basics
by demonstrative (Posted Fri Jul 16, 2010 11:41 pm)IRC - Internet Relay Chat
Common Commands
/nick
Changes your name to whatever is in the brackets.
/msg
Sends a private message to the username in brackes.
Channel Modes
The only channel mode basic users should be familiar with is:
+m: Moderated - Only users with voice and above may speak.
For knowledge sake:
+n: No outside messages, users must be inside channel to speak.
+t: Topic may only be set by channel operators.
+l: Limited number of users allowed in channel. (Varies on WildIRC as users join/leave)
User Levels
@ Channel Operator (Ops or chanops): Ability to kick, ban, change channel modes.
+ Voice: Allows user to talk when channel is moderated (+m).
Registering with AuthServ
Why?
Registering with Authserv allows you to be recognized as an Op. You can also mask your IP.
How?
Once connected to the server type:
/msg AuthServ@Services.WildIRC.Net REGISTER
Leave out the carrots and input your accountname/password into the fields (this is not your UO game account stuff, totally different) and check your e-mail for a confirmation.
Once registered you must identify with AuthServ after every connect by typing:
/msg AuthServ@Services.WildIRC.Net AUTH
Once again leave out the carrots and input your accountname/password.
Registering a Channel
http://wildirc.org/registration/channel-registration
Channel registration is done by network admins (IRCops). Enter the appropriate information into the form and they will create your channel with W (chanserv) in it.
Masking your IP
/mode
Do this command before you join a channel. Otherwise there's no point.
Joining a Channel
To join a channel type:
/join #
For example: "/join #secondage"

New client installer.
by Derrick (Posted Sun Nov 15, 2009 1:34 pm)With all credit to Dagon, we've posted a new comprehensive client installer which can be downloaded from our main website: http://www.uosecondage.com/Download
http://download.uosecondage.com/UOSA_Client_Setup.exe
BitTorrent: http://download.uosecondage.com/UOSA_Client_T2A.torrent
This installer includes the 5.0.8.3 client, without any need for cumbersome patching after the install. It also includes Razor and UO-AutoMap, ad well as a secondary client which will allow connection to UOSA without using Razor.
The issue with the in-game music under Vista and Windows 7 has been fixed.
I have searched the forums for links to the old installer and deleted them, but i've likely missed a few, so if you come across old links, please let me know. Especially broken links to the demonoid torrent, and the old FTP site.
If anyone finds any issues or quirks with the installer please let me know.

The big FAQ Index. Must read for new players (under const..)
by Derrick (Posted Sun May 24, 2009 2:08 pm)I've tried to put some of the most pertinent information from the forums in one place here. There is a wealth of specific information in forums, but it can sometimes be hard to find using the search function. I'll continue to grow this as things come up, and if anyone has anything to add, please do so.

Murder System:
- Subject: Guide: Murder System and Stat Loss
- We do have stat loss if you have more than 5 short term counts.
- If you kill someone who later becomes disconnected of the shard restarts before they report you, you may be reported for murder when they log back in. This is often the source of "unexpected" murder counts.
- You receive the count when the murder is reported, so it's possible that you may go red at a very inconvenient time, such as when you are in town.
Reputation
- Information on criminal status, guards, etc can be found here: Guards and Town

Skill gain
- Most skills are difficulty based.
- Gains in melee skills and meditation can be confusing to new players because you do not gain if you are using the skills when you have either no chance of failure, or no chance of success.

- Combat skill gains are much slower when fighting players
Third Party programs
- Only Razor is allowed to script in game actions.
- All other programs of this type are not allowed at all. This will be harshly enforced
Mining, Lumberjacking, Fishing, Etc.
- You may not gather resources unattended at all.
- You must be in the vicinity of your PC and checking on it regularly.
- Unattended fishing is allowed only from shore.
- This is another very harshly enforced rule, and violation of this is bannable.

Client Problems
- Here are some issues, especially in Vista which can cause client issues.
- In-game music may crash the client in Vista
- Auto-Death-Screenshot feature may cause immense lag when someone dies if your hard drive is fragmented.
- Hard drive fragmentation can cause lag
- Wireless network connection can cause lag
- Disable: "Use smart CPU reduction" especially in Vista.
- Here's a few other threads that may help with client issues:
Many UO:R and later era Features are out of the T2A era and are not supported here
- Lumber-jacking and Arms Lore do not give a combat damage bonus.
- There is no stun punch, or disarm
- Poisoning is a crafting skill, it's only usefulness on the field is the ability to re-poison your weapon.
- Wrestling will help prevent you from getting hit while you are casting a spell. There is no "Defensive Wrestling" involving anatomy
- Much specific skill info can be sound in our Wiki
You're on your own:
- We will not move you if you are not actually physically stuck in the map. If you become stranded on an island or elsewhere you may need to petition for help from another player.
- Our harassment policies are here: Subject: Harassment Policies
- We will not get involved in player disputes unless taken to an extreme.
- We can not tell you who killed you, who looted your house, or give out the online status of another player
- We do not give any equipment stats or skills to any player ever, nor will we "adjust" murder counts.
- Staff on Second Age do not play. Our staff are very professional, and there is no favoritism here.
- Keep your account secure: Subject: Account Security, Deletion and Hacking
- If you share your account information with others, your account may be held responsible if rules such as our "Unattended resource gathering" policies are broken.
General Shard Rules are here:
