Weekly Sunday Tournaments: Hosted by Nevermore(On Hiatus)

by Nevermore (Posted Thu Nov 17, 2011 3:12 pm)

Edit: Currently Sunday guaranteed events by me are on hold due to some pressing personal matters I have to deal with that have cut my free time down significantly. I will get them back up and running as soon as possible.

I've proposed to the players that I will sponsor any event (that's good) if they set it up, and I'll just do the magical stuff. Like you plan it, pick the places, ideas, take care of the threads/sign ups, etc. etc. and I'll add in what needs to be done in-game to make it doable. So if you have an idea shoot it by me via IRC or forum PM and I'll try and work it out in a timely matter if I can. Sorry again for the lack of events on my part.

As you're all aware, our automated events have been offline for some time. They'll take a bit of work to get them back into a working fashion that meshes will with all the sides that have opinions on them as well as doing what we as staff would like to do with them.

Last Sunday there was a large discussion about events in our IRC channel and I decided to throw some impromptu events. A 'monster bash' followed by a 1v1 tournament organized by me with a set of gentlemen's rules. I figured, while we're working out automated events I can manage a weekly Sunday tournament or two. So without further adieu; here's the info everyone's going to be wanting to know.

REWARDS:

None. Don't ask. The reward is the event itself. Regardless of which event(s) is being held. Feel free not to attend if this is something you can't handle.

WHEN:

Sundays between 8pm and 10pm EST. I will be in the IRC channel #uosatourn to give out information. For those who do not use IRC I will also be at the Brit Inn to relay the same information.

WHAT:

This is where I get to have my fun. The events will vary every week. Monster bashes will be at the standard place available via event gates. Tournament will ALL be held in-world, at a different place under different conditions each week. Sometimes it'll be no holds barred, sometimes it'll be only GM weps, etc. It's all really up to my cruel mind and giant ego what goes down at each tournament. But these will all be gentlemen's duels, all governed by my very "fair" but strict...

RULES:

Some rules will vary based on the nature of the tournaments. Some rules will never change, they are as follows:

  • NO looting. If you loot a downed opponent you will be sent to jail.
  • NO pre-casting. All matches will be started with the standard wall of stone cast by me.
  • NO crowd interaction. This means you do not cast if you're watching or waiting your turn. You do not use skills. No peacemaking. No hiding. No stealthing. No snooping. No stealing. No skills. Doing so will result in you being sent to jail.
  • NO entering the general dueling area while watching/waiting. As these will be in-world, 'arenas' won't be as clearly defined as a proper arena. So basically just stay out of the way. I'll assign areas where standing around is okay, try to stick to them.
  • I reserve the right to add any rules at the actual event so I suggest paying attention. I also reserve the right to kick you out of the event for any reason I see fit. These rules are non-negotiable. I'm doing this because I want to give people a fun thing to do while there's an absence of a lot of staff and player run events as well as automated events.

And that's about the gist of it. Things will become more fleshed as more of these events are held. I'm sure some thing will change and evolve. I'll leave this thread open for questions and civil on-topic discussion only. All other posts will be deleted and I will be angry.

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

    • House Steps are considered foundation, and will be accounted for in the yard check. Thanks Kryptonical

    • Players within a house are no longer moved to the center when the house is demolished.
    • Banned Mobiles no longer moved to ban-location when entering a house, they will just bounce off the steps.

  • You can no longer friend a pet to a player who cannot control it. Thanks Kaivan
  • The teleporter to the Star Room is no longer triggered by simply approaching the altar, you must double click the brazier. Thanks Malice

Supporting Second Age: Forum group for active subscribers

by Derrick (Posted Thu Sep 15, 2011 3:20 pm)

I want to thank all of the donors and subscribers to Second Age.
Without their selfless donations to UOSA it would be a struggle to keep the shard funded.

It's long been a challenge to find a way to recognize our supporters, as we give no form of in-game reward or preferential treatment for donations to the shard. I've just instituted a new forum group for active subscribers so that these members have a special hue to their forum names, and are listed in the membership of the new "Subscribers" group.

Please thank these players for their contribution to the shard. Second Age is not for profit: we barely make ends meet here.

I've also allotted this group an expanded size PM inbox, to the maximum of 9999, vs the 250 messages most forum accounts are limited to.

Finding ways to encourage support of the shard; while keeping the game "straight" is a struggle we've faced for some time. Ideas on other ways that we could thank our donors and subscribers are very welcome.

If you are interested in becoming a subscriber to Second Age, or to make a one time donation of any amount (no amount is too small), please visit the Support The Shard page on our main website.

Thanks!

ps: Subscription emails don't always match the forum account, so if i missed any current subscribers in the new list, please let me know!Read the main topic related to this post

How To Bypass Razor Updates

by Dagon (Posted Fri Nov 12, 2010 8:43 pm)

At least for today Razor is hanging for an amount of time while it tries to check for updates.. this update check, and future updates which could potentially break Razor until another update is made (like we've seen in the recent past), can be skipped by modifying your computer's registry key where Razor looks for the last time it checked for updates.

To make this change you can easily download the attached registry file and double click on it, or right click on it (the downloaded file) and select Merge, saying Yes to add to registry to make the change, or do it manually by following these basic instructions, assuming you are familiar with using the registry editor.

Open the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Razor
Change the value of UpdateCheck from whatever it currently is to "020391E8A569A689" without the quotation marks.

This effectively sets the next time Razor will check for updates to 50 years in the future. Any important Razor updates that we actually should download will most likely be announced, but currently Razor updates do nothing that effect us on UOSA.

ftp://download.uosecondage.com/Tools/NoRazorUpdates.reg

NOTE: If you use PeerBlock/PeerGuardian, or any other IP filtering software using widely available IP lists, this download will be blocked on port 21 by those lists. You'll have to temporarily disable the software or allow the connection.

The preferred verion of Razor for the 5.0.8.3 client on UOSA is available here: ftp://download.uosecondage.com/Razor_Latest.exeRead the main topic related to this post
